2014 is the 20th anniversary of the Sandwich Festival.

The August Bank Holiday sees the annual festival, with a full programme of events both indoors and outdoors. Some annual favourites such as the motor cycle meet, barn dance and duck race continue and go from strength to strength.

Sunday 17th  August

 

Music in the Garden      

5pm – 7pm        No. 2 The Ramparts,Knightrider Street

An informal musical event with the Becker Palm Court Trio.

There is no entrance fee, but we invite donations towards the Festival.

Access is from 4pm until 8pm and the music is from 5pm until 7pm.

Please bring your own seating. Lavatory facilities are not provided at this event.

This event will be held in St Mary’s Church if heavy rain renders the garden unsuitable.

 

Monday 18th August

Wine Tasting        

6pm – 8pm                       Hercules Wine Warehouse, Moat Sole.

 

Hercules Wine Warehouse invites you to join the team for an informal tasting of a selection of their favourite wines – our extensive range of  wines and spirits will also be available to purchase on the evening.

Wednesday 20th August

 

Chess Tournament                    

7pm Grand Jury Room, Sandwich Guildhall.

A social occasion for chess players of all ages and skills : each competitor will play five games with an opportunity to win prizes. Spectators welcome.

Festival Concert : Becker Symphony Orchestra          7.30pm

St. Mary’s Arts Centre, Strand Street, Sandwich.

Friday 22nd August

 

St Bart’s Patronal Festival  11am   St. Bart’s Chapel

followed by the Bun Run at 12noon. FREE EVENT

 

 

 

Sandwich Festival 1920s  Evening 7.30pm – 11pm

St. Mary’s Arts Centre, Strand Street, Sandwich.

           

To celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the first Sandwich Festival in 1994 dress to impress and dance to live music from the KD Jazz and Dance Orchestra .

There will be prizes for dancers and costumes.

Feel free to bring a picnic and purchase drinks from the bar hosted by the Admiral Owen.

 

Tickets £10, includes a complimentary cocktail courtesy of Discovery Park Ltd.

Stalls in St. Peter’s Church Garden. 10am – 4pm . FREE EVENT

Spend time browsing around the stalls and pick up a few bargains. You will find local crafts, cake stalls, bric-a-brac and lots more.

Quay Green 10.30am to 4.30pm

 

Circus Workshop with Stilt Walking, Magic Shows, Juggling and Balloon Modelling hosted by Juggle It All.

There is no entrance fee, but we invite donations towards the Festival.

 

Tunnel Run, Crazy Golf and Pedal Go-Karts hosted by Atlantis Entertainment.

 

Face Painting

 

Visit the White Mill Heritage Centre          Ash Road

10.30am to 5.30pm (last entry at 4.30pm)

See the white smock windmill and many other exhibits, including a furnished miller’s cottage, cobbler’s workshop, blacksmith’s forge, old agricultural machinery and tools plus much more.

Historic Sandwich Walk

2.30pm. Starting from the Guildhall Forecourt

Hosted by the Sandwich Local History Society.

Sandwich Festival Barn Dance

6pm – 9pm. Market Street

Back by popular demand the Barn Dance with music by Smalltown Romance and caller Sue Hudson. This is a real family occasion so come along and join in the fun. FREE EVENT

There is no entrance fee, but we invite donations towards the Festival.

This event will be held in St. Mary’s Arts Centre if heavy rain renders Market Street unsuitable.

 

 

Illuminated Boat Parade

9pm The Quay. FREE EVENT

 

Watch the illuminated boats on the River Stour from the newly redeveloped Sandwich Quay.

 

 

 

 

Sunday 24th August

 

 

Motorcycle Meet

9am – 1pm            Guildhall Forecourt. FREE EVENT

Refreshments available.

Hosted by the Ramsgate Old Motor and Motorcycle Club (R.O.M.M.C.C.).

There is no entrance fee, but we invite a donation of £1 from the motorcyclists towards the Festival.

 

 

Italian Market      

10am to 4pm        Market Street

Spend some time choosing from the extensive range of genuine Italian produce offered by Italia In Piazza.

 

Wildlife and Countryside Fair

10am – 4pm Sandwich Bay Bird Observatory

 

There will be stalls, competitions, face painting, raffle, children's activities, guided nature walks, refreshments, bird ringing demonstrations, and more.

 

A free bus service from Sandwich town centre to the Bird Observatory will run on an hourly basis.

 

A wildlife photographic exhibition and children’s art exhibition will be on display throughout August.

12 noon to 4pm    St Mary the Virgin, Wingham

WW1 memorabilia, Church Artefacts, History of St. Mary the Virgin Church, Refreshments 

 

Bat and Trap Tournament       2pm                Quay Green   

Come along and learn about this medieval game. People of all ages and abilities are invited to take part from 2pm.

Tuition will be given and teams are encouraged for this fun event.

The tournament will start between 3pm and 4pm.

International Food and Gift Fayre in Market Street

9am to 5pm

This inaugural event promises to bring a vibrant, friendly and truly unique atmosphere to Sandwich town centre.
 
Stalls range from produce such as German sausage, French and Asian cuisine, fresh flowers from Holland, Belgian chocolates, soaps, a selection of sweets, jewellery, clothes, designer handbags and ornamental decorative pieces for both home or garden.

Charitable event hosted by the Rotary Club of Sandwich who will be selling Plastic Ducks throughout the Festival week.
