Thursday 27th to Monday 31st August

 

 

The August Bank Holiday sees the annual festival, with a full programme of events both indoors and outdoors. Some annual favourites such as the motor cycle meet, barn dance and duck race continue and go from strength to strength.

Sandwich Festival 2015– Programme of Events

 

 

Sunday 23rd August

 

Music in the Garden      

3pm to 5pm        Manwood Court, Strand Street

An informal musical event with the Becker String Quartet.

There is no entrance fee, but we invite donations towards the Festival.

Access is from 2.30pm until 5.30pm and the music is from 3pm until 5pm.

Please bring your own seating. Lavatory facilities are not provided at this event.

This event will be held in St Mary’s Church if heavy rain renders the garden unsuitable.

 

Monday 24th August

 

St Bart’s Patronal Festival                  11am      St. Bart’s Chapel

followed by the Bun Run at 12noon. FREE EVENT

 

 

Wednesday 26th August

 

Cinema Evening - Grease                  

7.30pm (Doors open at 7pm)                      Empire Cinema, Delf Street.

Come and see Grand Master Andrew Greet competing in a simultaneous chess tournament!

Sandwich Festival Brocante on The Quay Green        10am to 4pm . FREE EVENT

Spend time browsing around the stalls and pick up a few bargains. You will find stalls selling vintage clothing, furniture and homewares, musical and military memorabilia, toys, and jewellery We are also encouraging the people of Sandwich to join in and have a stall with discounted rates for Sandwich residents

Pitches : from £25 for commercial stallholders. (£20 per stall for Sandwich Residents)

Quay Green 10.30am to 4.30pm

 

Circus Workshop on The Quay Green        10.30am to 4.30pm . FREE EVENT

 

with Stilt Walking, Magic Shows, Juggling and Balloon Modelling hosted by Juggle It All.

There is no entrance fee, but we invite donations towards the Festival.

 

Retro Fayre on The Quay Green       10am to 4pm

 

Featuring Coconut Shy, Hook a Duck, Hoopla, Splat The Rat and a Traditional Sweet Cart 

 

 

 

Visit the White Mill Heritage Centre          Ash Road

10.30am to 5.30pm (last entry at 4.30pm)

See the white smock windmill and many other exhibits, including a furnished miller’s cottage, cobbler’s workshop, blacksmith’s forge, old agricultural machinery and tools plus much more.

Admission : Adult £3, Children under 16 £1 (under 5’s free), Concessions £2 Family Ticket £8 (2 Adults and up to 4 Children)

Sandwich Carnival

4pm to 6pm. 

The Carnival Procession will leave Sandwich Technology School at 4pm and make its way to the Guildhall across the railway crossing. It will then proceed around the one way system past the Bell Hotel back to the Guildhall. The final stage takes procession past the Co-Op to make its way back to Sandwich Technology School via St. Bart’s Road.

 

 

Sandwich Festival Barn Dance

6pm to 9pm. Market Street

Back by popular demand the Barn Dance with music by Smalltown Romance and caller Sue Hudson. This is a real family occasion so come along and join in the fun. FREE EVENT

There is no entrance fee, but we invite donations towards the Festival.

 

 

Illuminated Boat Parade

10pm The Quay. FREE EVENT

 

Watch the illuminated boats on the River Stour from the newly redeveloped Sandwich Quay.

 

 

 

 

Sunday 30th August

 

 

Motorcycle Meet

9am to 1pm          Guildhall Forecourt. FREE EVENT

Refreshments available.

Hosted by the Ramsgate Old Motor and Motorcycle Club (R.O.M.M.C.C.).

There is no entrance fee, but we invite a donation of £1 from the motorcyclists towards the Festival.

 

 

Italian Market      

10am to 4pm        Market Street

Spend some time choosing from the extensive range of genuine Italian produce offered by Italia In Piazza.

Hosting many of Kent’s wildlife organisations, as well as demonstrating bird ringing and moth trapping. Visitors can enjoy guided walks and displays about the important flora and fauna of the area. There will be stalls, competitions, children’s activities and a Grand Raffle, prizes include cash and high quality binoculars (kindly donated by optical specialists 'In Focus'). Parking at the Observatory is free, but £1 toll may be payable for road access.

Come along and learn about this medieval game. People of all ages and abilities are invited to take part from 2pm.

Tuition will be given and teams are encouraged for this fun event.

This is the second year of these handmade events. An impressive range of handmade products from local 'crafters' in Kent. A chance to buy some unique handmade items

 

Polly and Paloma’s Handmade Happenings      10am to 4pm

Sandwich Guildhall

 

An Arts and Crafts Event inside the Guildhall with truly beautiful items to purchase

This will include local artists and crafters selling everything from greeting cards, wooden items and jewellery as well as other unique gifts that you won't find on the High Street 

 

Historic Sandwich Walk

2.30pm. Starting from the Guildhall Forecourt

Hosted by the Sandwich Local History Society.

Duck Race on The Quay

3.15pm - 3.30pm

Charitable event hosted by the Rotary Club of Sandwich who will be selling Plastic Ducks throughout the Festival week.

Tickets will be sold outside the Co-Op Pioneer on weekends leading up to the Duck Race and on the Quay throughout the Bank Holiday weekend

  • Please note that the ‘Challenge 25’ policy for the sale and consumption of alcohol will be enforced at all Sandwich Festival events where applicable

 

 

  • The Sandwich Festival Association will not be held responsible for any damage, loss or theft to personal property

 

 

 

  • The Sandwich Festival Association accepts no liability in the event of any late cancellation due to circumstances beyond our control.

 

 

  • There is free car parking available at Cow Lees Meadow which is located behind the Malcolm Waite and Son filling station in New Street. This can be accessed via Sandwich Bypass and entering Sandwich past Sandwich Technology School on the Deal Road. The Post Code is CT13 9BU
