2014 is the 20th anniversary of the Sandwich Festival.

The August Bank Holiday sees the annual festival, with a full programme of events both indoors and outdoors. Some annual favourites such as the motor cycle meet, barn dance and duck race continue and go from strength to strength.

Please see below for a detailed programme of events 2013.  The 2014 programme will be based on keeping some events and adding new ones.

Sandwich Festival 2013– Programme of Events

 

 

Sunday 18th  August   

 

5pm – 7pm        Music in the Garden, an informal musical event at Manwood Court, Strand Street with the Becker Palm Court Trio

There is no entrance fee, but we invite donations towards the Festival.

Access is from 4 until 8pm and the music is from 5pm until 7pm.

Please bring your own seating. Lavatory facilities are not provided at this event.

This event will be held in St Mary’s Church if heavy rain renders the garden unsuitable.

 

Wednesday 21st August

 

7pm Chess Tournament in the Grand Jury Room, Sandwich Guildhall

A Social occasion for chess players of all ages and skills : each competitor will play five games: there will be prizes and refreshments. Spectators welcome.

Thursday 22nd August

 

7.30pm Festival Concert : Becker Symphony Orchestra in St Mary’s Church, Sandwich. Tickets £15, includes a complimentary glass of wine.

The Becker ensemble will be augmented by musicians of international reputation and the concert will be played in the beautiful and convenient venue of St. Mary’s Church.

10am – 4pm  Stalls in St. Peter’s Church Garden . FREE EVENT

Spend time browsing around the stalls and pick up a few bargains. You will find local crafts, cake stalls, bric-a-brac and lots more

Pitches : £25 per stall

11am     St Bart’s Patronal Festival in St Bart’s Chapel followed by Bun Run at 12noon. FREE EVENT

 

10.30am to 4.30pm Circus Workshop with Stilt Walking, Magic Shows, Juggling and Balloon Modelling on the Quay Green hosted by Juggle It All.

FREE EVENT

There is no entrance fee, but we invite donations towards the Festival.

 

10.30am to 5.30pm Visit the White Mill Heritage Centre

last entry at 4.30pm

See the white smock windmill and many other exhibits, including a furnished miller’s cottage, cobbler’s workshop, blacksmith’s forge, old agricultual machinery and tools plus much more.

Admission : Adult £3, Children £1, Concessions £2 Family Ticket £8 (2 Adults and up to 4 Children)

10.30am to 5.30pm St Nicholas Church Ash Open Day  

40 minutes of Dramatic Vignettes of Ash history at 11.15am, 2.30pm and 3.30pm.   Ash Tithe map, Tower open ,Flower arranging demonstration, refreshments, moments of prayer in an historic church

 

 

2pm Jazz in the King’s Arms Garden with Dr Jazz Combo

2.30pm Walk  - Historic Sandwich. Hosted by the Sandwich Local History Society.

6pm – 9pm Sandwich Festival Barn Dance. Back by popular demand the Barn Dance in St Mary’s Arts Centre  with music by Smalltown Romance and caller Sue Hudson. This is a real family occasion so come along and join in the fun. FREE EVENT

Sunday 25th August

 

 

9am – 1pm Motorcycle Meet on the Guildhall Forecourt. FREE EVENT

Refreshments available

Hosted by the Ramsgate Old Motor and Motorcycle Club (R.O.M.M.C.C.).

10am to 4pm Italian Market in Market Street

Spend some time choosing from the extensive range of genuine Italian produce offered by Italia In Piazza

 

10am – 4pm Sandwich Bay Bird Observatory Trust Wildlife and Countryside Fair

Most of Kent's wildlife organisations will be here along with local craft makers. There will be moth trapping, bird ringing and guided walks as well as displays about all of the flora and fauna of the area.
